The Sunrise Association organizes initiatives to support children struggling with cancer. Among their many initiatives is Sunrise-Israel, which was first launched in 2010. The Sunrise-Israel initiative consists of day camps and programs open to Israeli children ages 4 to 17. Activities include sports and arts and crafts and are free of charge.
The group’s in-hospital program, Sunrise on Wheels, offers fun activities to children who are visiting or admitted to the pediatric oncology units. Volunteers spend the day at the hospital playroom, where hey entertain the children using games and toys. Additionally, volunteers pay special visits to hospitalized children whose condition is so severe that they cannot leave their hospital beds. The program is currently active in two Israeli hospitals, one in Haifa and one in Be’er Sheva.
